How Much Should You Walk?

It is important that you walk every few hours to avoid getting a blood clot; however, it is also important that you not be too active. We call this “just right activity”. You should walk enough to get exercise, but not walk so much that you cause bleeding or excessive swelling during the early post-operative period. As you distance yourself from your surgical procedure, your activity level can increase.

Your surgeon may order physical therapy following surgery. Work closely with your therapist who will instruct you on how to increase your activity level in a safe step-wise fashion.
